Another Apple
I bought some acrylic paint, some brushes, canvas and other tools in an attempt to try out 'real' painting. I've dabbled with watercolor as a kid but always loved to rock the pencil. It's so simple elegant and easy, why change from graphite. Yet when I think of real art I think of my oil paintings on canvas of a real life subject, so in keeping with the theme of me wanting to be a real artist, I'd try out acrylics. This is the second thing Ive ever painted with oils. Below is a cherry I did last night, it turned out weird because somehow the red I bought was oil and not acrylic so it mixed funky.
Well here is:

This is the first attempt painting anything not watercolor, and Ive never painted with water color.

Avalanche Coffee Mug - Oil Pastel
Went to the store today and picked up some cheap oil pastels. Never used them before but I describe it as a perfect mix of crayola crayons and chalk pastels. A far more forgiving medium than I thought, and intially I was not happy with them.
Yet as I started to get a feel for how they worked, they really grew on me.
My Love List thus far:
1. Pencil
2. Chalk Pastel
3. Standard Sidewalk Chalk
4. Oil Pastel
5. Watercolor
6. Acrylic (Mainly because I've never used them)
Anyway here is my first oil piece.

Ive been facisnated by the free pastels I was given at the sidewalk chalk festival. I just cannot get enough of their highly forgiving super fun characteristics.

Pizza Dog Dexter
I normally avoid drawing animals due to the fact that, well, I suck at drawing animals. So since sucking sucks, I decided to try to draw my disaster dog, Dexter, and since it's #pizzadog week here you all go!

Indi Soul Live Draw
Went to an Indi Soul jam session tonight. I love music almost as much as I love to draw, if not more. I feel that the emotion in good music is a catalyst for my art, and what better way to do that than a live draw. I did this over a two hour session with breaks for shots and celebration!

Family is all there is!
Saw a picture today and it just had my style and emotion written all over it. So since I cant write worth a darn, I drew it, and then gave it as a gift for a great dad!

Batman reflecting..
This is the first of many commission pieces I hope! I was lucky enough to have someone request a Batman piece in my interpretation, in charcoal. This is what I felt when I drew Batman, sure most people draw Batman all tough and angry, but Ive always felt DC Comics style was to focus on the people then their powers. I hope you like it!

Austerity in Spain
How can we get to a place where police and firefighters are fighting it out on the street? Isn't the USA in some for of austerity? Are we fighting? Do we care enough to notice, let alone fight?

Richard Ray Atkins Jr Life Drawing
On this Memorial Day I went to pay homage to my one true hero, my dad! I couldnt think of a better way for me to celebrate his life than to draw what I have of him! Love you dad!

Quick sketch time girls and boys!!
In my never ending quest to draw the perfect human condition, I seek out pics from the Internet and limit my time to less than 20 mins. The time limit for me stops the perfectionist in me and lets me just draw somewhat freely without the constraints of worry about proportion or contouring. Enough blabblery here..
All pieces here are simple 9" x 6"

Oh No You Did'Nit
Tonight I put my work out onto the internet live in the form of a Google Hangout. It's a live webcast so to speak where people can come join in and watch me draw. You can chat and talk with each other, and share links and what not!
I had one visitor on my very first Hangout, which is sweet since the camera I used is ghetto, even for Wyoming!
Here is what I drew in about and hour and a half.
